Flying Dragonfly and Lightning

I’ve finally done it! I mean I’ve taken pictures of dragonflies flying but this photo is better. It took a lot patience and a cooperative California Darner Dragonfly to get this shot.

California Darner

Its not easy to get a photo of a dragonfly.

As a bonus I started my day at 5:15 AM to the sound of thunder. I literally jumped out of bed, ran to the window to make sure it was really lightning and was out the door by 5:23. I try not to miss lightning photo opportunities if I can help it. Here is one shot from the batch:

Lightning over Provo and Orem

I love the smell of lightning in the morning.

I went home, burned a bagel and left for work. All in all, a great day.

Freedom Festival – Balloon Race

Alexander’s Print Advantage asked me to take some photos of their balloon for the Freedom Festival Balloon Race. The Alexander’s balloon was the first one up but due to windy conditions, it never got off the ground.

Matt and Anna

I’ve never really worked with props before and balloons are a difficult to get used to, especially on a windy day. Anna requested some “retro or vintage” photo effects; I may have gone a little overboard, but I think the final product turned out fantastic.

Provo City Series – Provo City Power

Provo City Power Tower

I’m working a photo series of Provo. This is my first image of the set. Let me know what you think and I’m still open to updating my list.

Provo City Photo Set

Provo Canyon

I’ve been contemplating taking up a new project. I have a list of buildings and sites of Provo that I think show Provo’s history and uniqueness, and here is the list in no particular order:

Lavell Edwards Stadium
Provo Tabernacle
Provo City Power
BYU Girls Gymnasium
Center Street
Utah Lake State Park
Provo Hospital
Creamery on 9th
Original BYU Creamery
The ‘Y’
View from Squaw Peak
Missionary Training Center
Provo Temple
J Dawgs (J Dogs)
Provo Library
Covey Center
Provo Wetlands
Malt shop
Seven Peaks

Update: This is going to be a year long project at least so I’ll get all seasons and here are some of the suggested additions.

Bell Tower
Airport
Cemetery
Train yard
Farmers market
Pioneer village

If you have more ideas for photo worthy place in Provo, please leave a comment.

Thanks!
